The Port Townsend Marine Science Center
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is committed to hands-on, place-based, and people-powered programs that inspire conservation of the Salish Sea. Community science projects, school and public education experiences, aquarium and museum exhibits, a strong volunteer corps and partnerships with other conservation organizations connect us to one another and to the marine and shoreline environment we work to understand and to steward.
SEA-Media
SEA-Media brings you media about our Pacific Northwest waters. Our web site offers reviews of, and links to, books, movies, art, music, blogs, and more. We specialize in highlighting independent media, but we include as much media as we can from all sources. We hope that exploring this web site will help you better know our marine environment which is the overwhelming majority of our biosphere. SEA-Media is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the profile of our marine environment in the media.
Salish Magazine
Salish Magazine is another project of SEA-Media. Salish Magazine is a free, quarterly, and advertisement free, on-line publication that reveals our natural world through visually rich stories about outdoor features in our Salish Sea region. Since 2018, Salish Magazine has been taking inquisitive readers outdoors with in-depth storytelling about what our readers can see firsthand in our public forests and beaches. A key focus of the magazine is to illustrate the interconnectedness woven through our ecosystems, using lenses of history, science, and culture. From up-close views of pollination to the mysterious lives of sea anemones, Salish Magazine uses 21st century methods to deliver engaging stories that are interactive, rich in visual imagery, scientifically correct, yet fun to read.
SeaDoc Society
The mission of the SeaDoc Society is to ensure the health of marine wildlife and their ecosystems through science and education. We strive to find science-based solutions for marine wildlife in the Salish Sea through a multi-species approach.
SEA Discovery Center
SEA Discovery Center is dedicated to inspiring a deeper sense of understanding and stewardship of the marine environment. Through hands-on STEM education programs and our aquarium, we promote environmental conservation in Kitsap county for all ages. For more than 50 years marine science education has been front and center in Poulsbo, first as the Poulsbo Marine Science Center, and more recently, Western Washington University’s SEA Discovery Center.
Feiro Marine Life Center
Feiro Marine Life Center contributes to a strong community by providing local marine and watershed learning experiences, inspiring us all to act on behalf of our environment.
We help people see beneath the surface!
Get up close and personal with the marine life of the North Olympic Peninsula. Our seawater comes directly from the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Touch sea stars, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, and more in our touch tanks. Learn about plankton at the microscope station. See a variety of fish and other animals you will find in our region.
Orca Network
Orca Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats. A community is emerging that is increasingly attuned to the orca population, that cares about and tries to understand the needs of the Resident and Transient orcas that inhabit the Salish Sea.
The Puget Sound Estuarium
We encourage community members to EXPLORE animals and plants in their local estuaries, where freshwater and saltwater meet. We CONNECT people of all ages to what is unique about this delicate, vibrant ecosystem. Our educational opportunities INSPIRE individuals to take better care of our shared natural resources.
Stillwaters Environmental Center
stillwatersenvironmentalcenter.org
Stillwaters Environmental Center was founded in 1999 as a community-based response to the environmental degradation threatening salmonids and their ecosystems in Puget Sound. Our mission is to advance scientific research, education and restoration on Puget Sound lowland streams and estuaries. We involve community science volunteers and college interns in local environmental and restoration monitoring and provide education about local environmental issues to school children and adults. In all our work, we have a two-pronged approach: using the restoration and monitoring program to provide environmental education and using education to promote the protection of our natural environment.
