Curator
Barbara Krystal
Barbara Krystal is a Marine Biologist, Author, and Teacher of Blue Humanities, the Intersection of Literature, Science and Art, at the University of Washington, Seattle. Tap dancing is her art form, connecting her with the barnacles who feed and breathe by “kicking out” their feet into the water. Via tap dancing as a form of communication, we can consider how marine creatures read their environments, exchange information, and listen for changes in rhythm.
Barbara has also presented public lectures on the diverse ways of Fathoming the Ocean through the lens of invention, discovery, superstitions, and the sea monsters populating maps used for navigating the globe.
